Older wiring does not last forever. If your property has not been rewired in 25–30 years or more, its cables, accessories and protection may no longer meet modern safety standards. Atlas Electrical provides full and partial house rewiring in Nottingham, carried out neatly, safely and to the current wiring regulations.
Signs Your Home Needs a Rewire
- Rubber, fabric or lead-sheathed cables
- An old fuse box and no RCD protection
- Round-pin or brown/black sockets and switches
- Flickering lights, burning smells or scorch marks
- Too few sockets and a reliance on extension leads
- An EICR recommending rewiring

Full vs Partial Rewire
A full rewire replaces all of the cabling, accessories and usually the consumer unit. A partial rewire focuses on specific circuits or rooms – for example a kitchen or an extension – where the rest of the installation is in good condition. After inspecting your property we will recommend the right option and explain why.
How a Rewire Works
First fix: new cables are run through walls, floors and ceilings, and back boxes are installed, usually before plastering or decorating. Second fix: sockets, switches, lights and the consumer unit are connected, then every circuit is tested. You receive an Electrical Installation Certificate and the work is notified to Building Control. A typical three-bedroom house takes roughly one to two weeks, depending on access and the scope of work.
A rewire is also the ideal time to add extra sockets and USB points, LED downlights and mains-wired smoke alarms.
Rewiring FAQs
Can I stay in the house during a rewire?
Often yes, although it is easier in an empty property. We plan the work room by room to keep disruption to a minimum.
Will there be mess?
Some chasing of walls is unavoidable, but we protect floors and furniture and clean up daily.
