An EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) is a detailed inspection of the fixed wiring in your property. As NICEIC approved electricians in Nottingham, Atlas Electrical carries out EICRs for landlords, homeowners, letting agents and businesses, giving you a clear and accurate report on the safety of your installation.
What Is an EICR?
An EICR checks the condition of your wiring, consumer unit, sockets, switches, light fittings and earthing against the current UK wiring regulations (BS 7671). Our electrician inspects and tests each circuit, identifies anything that is damaged, worn or no longer compliant, and records the results in a formal report.
Any issues are graded with a code so you know exactly what needs attention:
- C1 – Danger present: immediate action required.
- C2 – Potentially dangerous: urgent remedial work needed.
- FI – Further investigation: more checks needed to confirm a fault.
- C3 – Improvement recommended: not dangerous, but worth upgrading.
An installation with any C1, C2 or FI codes is classed as unsatisfactory. We explain every finding in plain English and can quote for any remedial work.

Who Needs an EICR?
- Landlords: private landlords in England must have the electrical installation inspected and tested at least every five years, and provide a copy of the report to tenants and the local council on request.
- Homeowners: an inspection is recommended at least every ten years, and when buying or selling a property.
- Businesses: regular inspection helps you meet health and safety duties and insurance requirements.
Signs Your Property Needs Inspecting
- Breakers or RCDs that trip frequently
- Scorch marks, buzzing or warm sockets and switches
- An old fuse box or a consumer unit without RCD protection
- Older rubber or fabric-insulated cabling
- No inspection record for the last ten years
Fixing Problems Found on Your EICR
If your report is unsatisfactory, we can carry out the remedial work – from replacing damaged accessories to a consumer unit upgrade or a full or partial rewire – and issue the certification you need to show the installation is now safe.
EICR FAQs
How long does an EICR take?
A typical house takes around three to four hours, depending on its size and the number of circuits. Power will be off for short periods during testing.
Is an EICR the same as a PAT test?
No. An EICR covers the fixed wiring of the building, while PAT testing covers portable appliances.
Do you cover the whole of Nottingham?
Yes – we work across Nottingham and nearby areas from our base in Rise Park.
